Our mountain hiking weeks
with certified tour guide Hanna Stauder Tinkhauser

Hanna is an experienced certified tour guide, always available to meet the specific desires and ideas of our guests. She is also passionate about the mountain, and a very active individual. She loves walking through her mountains, but also to visit places far afield, like Nepal, in the Himalayas, experiencing different people, cultures and religions. She is most at home in hostile environments. Happy, nature lover and committed, she prefers a storm to the shelter of a warm and welcoming home. Some people say that she knows some areas, both in the Dolomites and in Nepal, better than others know their own pockets. And in fact, with Hanna it will be possible to discover things that otherwise it would be impossible to know about.

Hiking routes

The first thought is not which objective can be reached, but the special experience to be had in doing so. Nature and mountains give us the opportunity to discover our inner self. Walking is not just good for stress: it also helps us to breath better, relieving our mind and heart of all heaviness.

Experience the wonderful Alpine landscape and rediscover yourself.

Whilst following the walking and breathing rhythm the head clears. Perception also changes, allowing us to enjoy the moment. When we stop and think about the "here and now", not just on a mountain top, we can enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the Alpine world, or a shared experience, feeling part of nature, and at ease with ourselves, while our heart fills with joy.

The Alm in the Braies valley is a wonderful place where one can relax and recharge. The ideal tour for the very first day. The climb is a bit demanding, with a rather steep path, but the journey is rather short.
The starting point is Ponticello (1,491 m), in the Braies Valley, going through a dirt road, and then through forests and fields, the Kaserbachtal, towards Gamsscharte (Chamois Fork), and to the Posta Alm (1,968 m). The views (for example of the Villandro Peak, or Croda Rossa D'Ampezzo) are impressive. The return is through a rather steep downhill route, that will take you back to the starting point.

Tues: 2nd hiking day

From Cimabanche through Val di Gotres

Going through a pine forest, passing by the springs rising with all their strength from the woods like mountain streams, you will then be greeted with the unexpected view of Mount Cristallo and the Ampezzo Dolomites. The Val di Grotes Valley is an understated place, like so many in the Dolomites, but which always offers new viewpoints of the surrounding mountains. At Forcella Lerosa, Croda Rossa d'Ampezzo greets us like a large amphitheatre. And how can one forget the enchanting landscape of the Senes plane area, with views of Croda del Becco, the Braies Dolomites, and the Lavinores? The descent will take you to the Ra Stua Alm in Cortina.

Alm 2000 and Casies Valley path

The Casies Valley is full of particularly beautiful alms. As suggested by the name "Almweg 2000", or Alm 2000 path, this journey is on average 2,000 above sea level, going from alm to alm. An journey up high in the mountains that deserves a special consideration also in view of the flora: already in spring, the path is surrounded by gentians, anemones, and the first rhododendrons. From the Tscharnietalm alm in the south at the bottom of the Casies Valley, the aim is to reach the Uwaldalm alm on the north. Together with the climb and the descent, this makes for a closed loop hiking route. The journey itself is very enjoyable and gratifying.

Duration: approx 5 hours

Fri: 5th hiking day

Through the Rienza Valley, to the Three Peaks (1,406 m)

Along the Rienza, which starts at the feet of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, continuing with the beautiful triad always in plain view from the start. The narrow valley lies between imposing rock walls on the right and left. After about one hour and a half is the lock, and the journey then continues upwards through a well secured Alpine path, up to the Rienza springs (Rienzboden), and then again to the Antonio Locatelli hut: the view is spectacular. On the south are the spectacular rocky towers. After crossing the Rienzboden, the journey continues towards the Long Alm (2,383 m), directly under the northern walls of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo. It is now time to fully relax by the lake and enjoy the day, before continuing to the Auronzo Hut, and then back to the valley by bus or taxi.

Lake Braies from the top

At the right time of the day, Lake Braies can look like a dream (early in the morning). The north wall of Croda del Becco remains an eternal treasure. At the bottom of the lake we have in front of us a 900 metre level difference. Through Buco del Giove, a ravine in the ground, we leave the forest limits and continue along the rocky part of Croda del Becco. This section is rather bare and rocky, but the path takes us very safely to Forcella Sora Forno (2,388 m). After a few minutes’ walk, we reach the Biella Hut of Croda del Becco (2,327 m), bordering the expanses of mountain grazing fields (3 1/2 h from the Biella Hut). After a welcome break, we continue for the wonderful wavy and slightly karstic plane, until we reach the Cavallo Alm, where we can celebrate in the rightful way our last hiking day, before descending back to Ponticello in the Braies Valley, ending our exciting hiking week on a high note.
